How To Best Support Your Irish Dancing Child
Jan 16, 2025Are you an Irish Dance parent who is feeling overwhelmed by the whole Irish Dancing world? We understand! The Irish Dancing world can be hard to navigate at times for Dancers; but also for parents too. We work with a lot of parents who say that they feel like they also need support; and this is why we have created a Parents Free Facebook page, a Parents section in the MWM Gold Club Community and have included Parents tickets with every Dancer ticket for our 2025 MWM Fest.
Here are three top tips to best support your Irish Dancing Child through their Dancing Journey:
Be An Encouraging Influence
It is your role as the parent to be an encouraging influence for your Dancer. Be there to be their biggest supporter and cheerleader; regardless of whether they perform their best or they make mistakes. Point out ways that you can help them to reach their Dancing goals, help them learn from their mistakes and clap loudly and proudly each time they perform.
Check In With Them Regularly
Check in with how your Dancer is feeling on a regular basis. The car rides to and from class or Feises is the perfect time to have a good talk about their feelings, goals or anything which may be bothering them. By allowing your Dancer to express themselves like this on a regular basis it can massively help to reduce your Dancers stress levels and help you two to work as a team together.
Help With Their Schedule
Being a dedicated Dancer can mean that there’s a lot of organisation required, so you can help your Dancer by assisting them with their schedule. We always encourage Dancers to take the lead on this, but by being there to support them you can help your Dancers to feel supported when things get busy.
There are many ways in which you can help your Irish Dancer with their journey; but don’t forget to look after yourself too. We are here for all parts of each Dancers ‘Feis Team’ - from parents and teachers - to the Dancers themselves.
