The Joy of Dancing Together: How Irish Dance Builds Lifelong Friendships

Jul 12, 2024

What is one thing that makes dance class so much better than practising at home??

Our friends of course!

I am very fortunate enough to still be the very best friends with dancers I competed against when I was younger - and our friendship is stronger now than ever. Without Irish dancing I never would have met these other dancers who have been so impactful in my life.

At Move With Meg, we believe it is very important to help dancers make friends in the Irish Dancing community so that they can have a super enjoyable Irish Dancing experience.

Here are three ways in which you can build lifelong friendships in the Irish Dancing world:

  • Chat to other Dancers at Feises

One great way to make new friends in the Irish Dancing world is to chat to other Dancers at Feises. It doesn’t matter whether they are your age group, your standard, your region or even your country - friendships can look all very different. Annabelle once met a Dancer from Australia at the World Championships who she stayed friends with for a long time - they even met up again years later in Manchester, England.

  • Use the MWM Community

Have you used our MWM Community to make Dancing friends and maintain your friendships? By downloading our MWMApp you can access the Progress Party section of the community and if you are a Gold Club member, then you also have access to the Share With Us, Introduce Yourself and Mindset Homework sections of our Members Club Community. Dancers are always engaging with each other on there and then arrange to meet up at Feises - which we think is super exciting!

  • Be supportive of each other

The most important thing to remember when it comes to making lifelong friendships is to always be supportive of each other. Celebrate when your friends do well, and they will do the same for you! If you have a friendship that finds it hard when it comes to Feis results, then check out our blog on this.

When you finish your dancing career your friendships will be the things that last for many more years to come; so embrace the opportunity to meet so many wonderful people when you’re competing. If you struggle to make Irish Dancing friends, try and chat with one more person at your next Feis or online this week and make that first step towards finding your new Irish Dancing best buddy!

We now have a FREE way in to our MWM Community in our Move Like A Champion - Free Mini Course.

This was created for dancers who can relate…

    • You know your correction but don’t know HOW you can improve it
    • You are struggling to understand WHAT you should be doing and WHY
    • You want to manage your time wisely and see major progress in just 4 weeks
    • You would love to be part of a supportive, motivating and inspiring Community of dancers just like YOU
