Your words matter! The power of positive self talk

Do you have any idea how powerful your words are? 

 

If you are anything like the MWM Team, you talk quite a lot! But we experience language in so many other ways than just what we say. We experience language every time we think, when we hear other people talk, when we watch TV, listen to music and read. 

 

Language is all around us and it is so powerful. 

 

Our mindset coach, Annabelle, is trained in NLP (neuro-linguistic programming) which focuses all on the importance and power of language and how that influences how we think, feel and act on a daily basis. When she works with dancers, she focuses heavily on the language that they use and teaches dancers how they can use their own power of language to help their dancing and boost their self confidence. 

 

And you can do the same!
 


So, why and how does this work?

 

In simple terms, the language we use or hear or have experienced in the past all have influence upon us on a daily basis. The words that we come into contact with impact the way we think about ourselves, our values and the way that we see the world. These thoughts come from words and these thoughts initiate our behaviour. 

 

So think of it this way…

 

If you think about yourself as a bad dancer - you will likely believe that you don't deserve to be watched dancing on stage. When these thoughts are in our head, we are more likely to hold back on stage because we don't believe we deserve to be watched by the judges and so we act in this way. This results in us not dancing our best, which normally means we don't receive the results we think we deserve. Which makes us believe we are a bad dancer - and the cycle starts again. 

 

 

Can you see how the cycle tends to repeat itself - all because of our initial thought! If we change our thoughts we can truly change our behaviours and our results! 

 

Your words matter. Use them to boost you up, rather than tear you down. Remind yourself of your strengths, of the times you danced well and why you dance in the first place. 

 

I promise that, with consistent practice, not only will this eventually start to change your self beliefs, but also how you dance and how you enjoy dancing as a whole.
